The CAMPA, an authority under the ministry of environment and forests of the central government, intends to accelerate activities for the preservation of forests and the management of wildlife.
S K Mohanty, DFO of Keonjhar said, "After getting a request for using the State-CAMPA fund for the safety of wild animals by strengthening electric wiring systems in elephant corridors, the state government has given Rs 10 crores to the Nesco."
"We have drawn a map of the elephant corridor talking to people from different sectors," he added.
According to the plan, the Nesco will insulate electric wires and strengthen electric poles along the corridor. They will also fix nails up to seven feet on the polls so that the jumbos do not cause damage to them while passing by. Besides, the forest department has identified a 200-km area in the Telkoi forest range for upgrading electric cables. Read the full report here.
