2609 Highly Polluting Industrial Units Identified: Natarajan

These units fall under 17 major categories of highly polluting industries in the country, Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan said in a written reply.

"The CPCB under its Environmental Surveillance Scheme (ESS) is carrying out random inspection of units for verification of compliance of stipulated environmental standards. Based on such inspections, action is taken against the defaulting industries," she said.

Jayanthi said officials from the CPCB and Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) had carried out a surprise check of the industrial unit operating in the name of Pearl Bottling Private Limited near Visakhapatnam in January this year. Read the full report here.
