This is the “Year of the Tiger" according to the Chinese calendar, marked by the world's most ambitious effort in conservation so far: to double the number of tigers in the wild. With the current population estimated to be as low as 3,200 worldwide, wildlife organizations have stepped up their conservation drives. The art fraternity, it seems, is the latest on the conservation float.
Artiger is the brainchild of three friends—art house Henry S Clark's managing partner Swapan Seth, gallerist Aparajita Jain and social development activist Nandita Kathpalia Baig—who happened to witness the elephant parade in London this summer. The three were inspired to work along the same lines. “We saw foreigners working to save the Asian elephant… It moved us to do what little we could for conservation," says Baig.
