Chidambaram, though a senior minister and a member of the Congress core committee, was not inducted as a full-fledged member of the CWC but as a permanent invitee. Traditionally, the party high command accommodates leaders/loyalists on the wrong side of the age line or second-rung leaders who have not yet acquired the political profile to fit into the party's elite group in the permanent/special invitee category. So, among those giving Chidambaram company as permanent invitees are M L Fotedar, Mohsina Kidwai, Karan Singh, R K Dhawan, S C Jameer, Shakeel Ahmed and Jagdish Tytler.
