After Coal, ‘Go, No Go’ Zones Suggested For Other Minerals

The recommendation, if accepted, could make many mineral-rich areas out of bounds for the mining community.

In its recent recommendations to the mines ministry, the high powered committee on infrastructure has suggested that a map covering all mineral-bearing areas of the country be drawn, highlighting the environmental and social sensitivities of forested areas, including protected areas.

Such areas could then be classified into high-and low-risk zones and the risks associated in mining on these areas should be highlighted. Read the full report here.
