According to R N Mehrotra, principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) and head of forest forces (HoFF), "A three-member team has been constituted for the purpose. The team will draw up the project report and submit it to the ministry for its approval."
The department conceived the idea of the biosphere during a recent meeting with Union minister for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh.
Officials in the department revealed that biosphere once created will be christened Rajiv Gandhi biosphere. "This is basically an attempt to conserve the rich bio-diversity of the catchment area of the Chambal river. It is a dry land eco-system. This is the only perennial river in Rajasthan and supports a wide variety of plants and animal,"' officials said. Read the full report here.
