Anti-Posco Stir Intensifies As Ramesh Puts Ball In Orissa CM's Court

Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said on Tuesday the onus was on the Orissa government to acquire land, "but in an orderly manner, not forcibly".

Ramesh also said, "Agitation is a democratic right of people, but they should be done peacefully. There is a bill that will come up in monsoon session of Parliament. We are amending the 1894 Land Acquisition Act."

After activists Medha Patkar and Swami Agnivesh, CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta also reached the Posco site in Govindpur in Orissa. Calling the Orissa CM a coward, Dasgupta said the Posco issue would be taken up strongly in the coming session of Parliament. Read the full report here.
