Throughout his campaign, Senator Obama promised to pursue American energy independence, and to correct the country's course regarding climate change, both at home and abroad. The President-Elect, who will take the oath of office on January 20, 2009, replacing George W. Bush, is widely expected to reverse many of the Bush administration's environmental and energy initiatives, and to exercise global leadership on climate change in particular.
