Enjoy the truly memorable experience of walking through the densely forested hills of Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary. This is one of the finest forests of northern Western Ghats. Abode of Indian Giant Squirrel - the state animal of Maharashtra - this wildlife sanctuary has a variety of fauna and flora. Birds like Indian Skimitar Babbler, Pied Bush Chat, Vigor's Sunbird and Asian Paradise Flycatcher are often seen. You may also get a chance to the listen to the heavenly melodious call of Malabar Whistling Thrush. Animals, though not easy to see in this dense forest, include Leopard, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Hyena and an occasional Sambar. Blue Mormon Resort, where the camp participants would be put up, is also a good place for Moth Watching at night. Moths like Atlas, Moon, Owl and Owlet Moths can be seen here. Close to Bhimashankar are pristine sacred groves such as Ahupe and forts such as Siddhgad. Bhimashankar is also the site of an ancient Shiv Temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlings in the country.
