BNHS Field Botany Course - 2010-11

Duration: 6 months
Eligibility: 15 years and above
Batch size: 40 participants
Course fee: Rs 3500 for BNHS members and Rs 4100 for non-members. (Please send the fees by DD in favour of Bombay Natural History Society. Fees include course material, plant taxonomy tool kit, interaction with experts and e-group discussions.)

Please note that:
1.      Cost for the field visits is separate and on cost-to-cost basis.
2.      Three local and one residential field visits are mandatory.
3.      Certificates will be awarded only after completion of compulsory field visits and project wok.

Course Contents:

1. The participants will be sent chapters on the topics covering plant morphology and related terminology, adaptations, life forms, classification, methods of collection and preservation of plant material, identification, biogeography, various habitat types and their representative flora, basic plant ecology and conservation.
   
2. Field visits: 
   

• At least five one-day field visits (to places such as Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Maharashtra Nature Park, CEC campus, Karnala and Tungareshwar) will be conducted.
  
• At least two residential field visits (4-5 days each).
  
• Visit to Blatter herbarium.
  

     3. Project work: All the participants will select their own topic of interest for the project to be carried    out during last month.
