Even before Amte received a phone call from Mantralaya, he received an SMS stating the names of the members of the committee. A puzzled Amte called up the sender to check whether the news was true. He was assured that it was. The SMS was sent by Janak Media Services, a Chandrapur-based firm.
At the end of the Nagpur Roars For Waghpur campaign, a team from TOI went to meet Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh who had come to Mumbai for parleys on various issues with state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. After their meeting, the two broke for lunch which was followed by a press conference that was televised live.
Ramesh made a slew of announcements. To the surprise of the TOI team members, who were waiting in the lobby of the Sahyadri guesthouse in Malabar Hill, a message landed on our mobiles announcing that Nagpur is now Tiger Gateway to India. The SMS newsbreak came even as the press conference was going on and it took another 20 minutes or so for Chavan and Ramesh to break out. Read the full report here.
