The conference is reminiscent of Brown's first term as governor a quarter century ago when the environment was a top priority of the young Brown administration.
Brown's conference will focus on the risks of unpredictable and extreme weather events caused by climate change and how California communities can prepare and adapt for the anticipated environmental changes.

Brown's conference is in response to the findings of a United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) outlining the link between global warming, extreme weather events and their economic impact. The IPPC report will be released later this month.
The principal objectives of the IPCC report, which will be released later this month, are to foster collaboration and discussions between climate science researchers spanning all three IPCC working groups (science, impacts, adaptation, mitigation) and colleagues in the disaster preparedness and risk management communities.
