This time round, though, it is the utilities that dug up D Road near the Garware Club to lay cables that have been blamed for causing the damage — much before the first of the three World Cup matches that begin on March 13.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) garden department on Monday issued a notice to BEST and Tata Power to reinstate the footpath planters and trees on the pavements of D Road within seven days. "The utilities dug D Road to lay cables to provide extra power to the stadium and dumped soil on the roots of around 150 trees present on both sides of the footpath. BMC has issued a notice to the two utilities to replant and reinstate trees and planters within seven days.
