Big Bird Day is fun mixed with some potentially serious business. The fun part is birding without any competition. The serious part is that if 400 teams from all over the subcontinent watch birds at 700 locations on the same day, the data becomes very valuable for measuring actual bird diversity of the region. It can form a rich database, especially if accumulated over several seasons/years.
Delhibird - The North India Bird Network is an interactive e-group which exists to share information about birds in north India and the issues that affect them. It seeks to help and encourage newcomers to the study of birds and enable birdwatching visitors and short-term residents to meet fellow enthusiasts who live in India. The group collects and collates valuable bird records from north India and discusses unusual sightings and other identification issues. The group is supported by regular field outings in the Delhi area and stimulating talks at the Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
