250 proposals were submitted last month - just 19 fewer than the previous record set in November 2011. The submission list currently stands at 7,912 projects, with 86 in the registration process.
The CDM is one of three key market-based instruments pioneered through the Kyoto Protocol to facilitate the global reduction of carbon emissions. Recent months have witnessed a dash for project registration, thought to be spurred by the impending restrictions on the types of Certified Emissions Reduction credits (CER) that can be sold within the EU's Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
Joergen Fenhann from the UNEP Risoe Centre commented: "I assume that the reason for the last amount of projects (before it was around 100-120) is that we are getting close to the end of the first commitment period for the Kyoto Protocol." Read the full report here.
