Mr Chavan will plead for an early environmental clearances for the Navi Mumbai Airport and other infrastructure projects. Among many other projects waiting green signal, topmost on the chief minister's agenda is of course the Rs 9,700 crore greenfield airport proposed over 2500 acres in Navi Mumbai. Union minister for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh, who grounded Vedanta's Orissa plans a fortnight ago, has held up the clearance for this project. The civil aviation ministry under Praful Patel has backed the Maharashtra government's claim that Mumbai urgently needed a second airport as the existing airport is fast reaching a saturation point.
