Climate Impact On Common Plants And Animals

By the end of the century, climate change could result in the loss of half of all common plant species and one third of animals. A study by researchers from the University of East Anglia looked at 50,000 globally widespread species, and found that a diversity of plants and animals would lose more than half of their climatic range by 2080 if nothing is done to try to mitigate climate change. While much of the planet would be affected, sub-Saharan Africa, Central America, Amazonia and Australia would lose the most species of plants and animals. The research concluded that if action is taken now to curb climate change about 60 per cent of the projected climatic range loss can be avoided.
