The project will be high on chief minister Prithviraj Chavan's agenda when he meets Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh on Friday. Sources said the meeting will focus on making capital-intensive projects, like coastal roads, the Nhava-Sewri link, metro rail and water transport, cheaper and achievable in a short timeframe. MSRDC minister Jaidutta Kshirsagar and leading corporate figures are also expected to attend.
"A coastal road on reclaimed land would be ready in just 22 months for merely Rs 400 crore, so the state government wants the PMO to permit it as a special case. The government is ready to adhere to directives on preserving coastal life," sources said. They added the government hopes the PMO will approve the project as a special case like the airports in Navi Mumbai and Andaman Nicobar islands. Read the full report here.
