Although the march was organised by civil society, organised labour and faith-based organisations to call for solutions to the climate-change crisis, I was disappointed at the organisers as no real and true voice was given to the ordinary people that braved their souls and walked peacefully through Durban.
Individuals from large and well organised groups like green peace to members from small groups like South African Waste Pickers Association, Airport Farmers Association, Don't Incinerate Africa, Rural development and many others walked side by side in a collective show of strength demanding for a clean and safe Earth.
Climate breakdown is destroying the lives of millions of people especially in poor countries and small islands. The people who experience the worst consequences are subsistence farmers, fishers, workers, and the poor, unemployed and in particular women within these groups as the cost of basic necessities drives them into poverty.
