He appreciated the efforts being made by various organisations in creating awareness about the need to save tigers that are facing threats of extinction due to rampant poaching. Diplomats from foreign embassies also participated in the car rally. The rally concluded at hotel Taj Palace. Over 70 parliamentarians along with their families participated in the rally.
On this occasion, Rajeev Pratap Rudy, MP and secretary (administration), Constitution Club was present. Also present were MPs Thomas Sangma who organised the event and VP Singh. Naveen Jindal, who also took part in the rally, had his pet dog for company. Agatha Sangma, the youngest minister (31), who bagged the Best Woman Driver Award, was the first to be flagged off. She had James Sangma, her brother, as the navigator.
The young and flamboyant MP, Anurag Singh Thakur, was seen driving his green jeep. Raghupati Singhania, vice-chairman and MD, JK Tyre & Industries Limited, said, "JK Tyre has always believed in spreading social awareness and we associate ourselves with causes that benefit the society and the nation at large in every possible way. Last year the rally promoted the cause of 'drive safe' and this year, along with the Constitution Club of India, our country's parliamentarians have come together to support the cause of Save Our Tigers which is the call of the hour."
Valmik Thapar, tiger conservationist, who was present at the event exhorted the need to harmonise man and tiger. He referred to the tiger as one of the most charismatic animals in the world. Jayanthi Natarajan, minister of state (independent charge) for environment and forests, gave away the prizes to the winners in various categories.
