An Environment Ministry official said the Standing Committee on the National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) had appointed a sub-committee to inspect the site after environmentalists and wildlife activists alleged that if the road is constructed through the mud flats of the Rann, it will threaten gregarious wading bird Greater Flamingo - an endangered species.

"The committee has not submitted its report so far.

However, we have included it as an agenda item in tomorrow''s meeting to be chaired by Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan," the official said hoping the committee will submit its report tomorrow. Read the full report here.
