The Andhra Assembly saw a noisy protest over the firing. In the Rajya Sabha, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh assured MPs that action would be taken by the end of day. The work suspension order takes note of the âunfortunate incident of police firing" and that the âincident" was related to issues such as location of the project in the wetland and non-compliance to conditions of clearance.
The order states that the ministry received representations that the 2,640MW thermal power plant was located in a wetland area. Complaints also detailed non-compliance with the order of the National Environment Appellate Authority. Read the full report here.
