Fishermen Still Awaiting Compensation For Mumbai Oil Spill Losses

"A commitee was formed to investigate the oil spill by former chief minister Ashok Chavan. But even after the committee submitted its report asking the government to give the affected fishermen a compensation of Rs8.6 crore. However, the government has not paid any heed to its suggestions," Akhil Maharashtra Machimar Kruti Samiti, president Damodar Tandel said.

"Over eight months have passed but we have not received a single penny till now. Neither the Central government nor the state government is compensating us," he said demanding a compensation of Rs8 crore for the about 2,000 affected small fishermen. Read the full report here.
