Nestled within the confines of Mumbai is the Sewri Bay - a little known biodiversity jewel frequented by almost half a million birds a year including thousands of flamingos. Birdlife International and the Bombay Natural History Society both list the Sewri Bay as an Important Birding Area. An unbelievable 12-15 per cent of the entire South Asian population of the near threatened Lesser Flamingos find sustenance in this area. Others might have to travel all the way to Africa's Lake Nakuru, but you can see these magnificent birds in your own backyard!
Participants will assemble at the Sewri Jetty by 7:00 a.m. where Sanctuary's team of naturalists and birdwatchers will show them the birds. This is a special complimentary event being organised for Sanctuary Asia subscribers. Friends and family are welcome. We also recommend that you bring a camera and binoculars (if you have a pair), water and light refreshments.
