Forest And Railway Officials Meet To Reduce Elephant Mortality

A meeting of the permanent cooordination committee was held here today between officials of West Bengal forest department and North East Fronitier Railway to chalk out a strategy to prevent elephant death caused by trains, a railway spokesman said. West Bengal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr Krishnamurthy and NF Railway General Manager Keshav Chandra expressed concern over the issue and agreed for joint action to prevent elephant death caused by speeding trains. It was agreed to use more technological gadgets to pre-warn train drivers, construction of under passes/over passes, close co-ordination between forest and railway officials and quick flow of information to each other when elephants are spotted in and around railway tracks.
