Although Ramesh has been elevated as a cabinet rank minister, greens feel he has been moved to a ministry where he couldn't stop anything. Noted tiger conservationist Valmik Thapar felt that Ramesh had upgraded the profile of the Environment Ministry. "I think, Jairam has done a lot of hardwork in the ministry, learnt on the job, upgraded the profile of the ministry and wherever he had the power to do, he was able to do," Thapar said.
"In the present situation, I think Ramesh was finding it a bit difficult to strike a balance between the mining lobby and the civil society groups," said Kishor Rithe, member, National Board for Wild Life (NBWL). Read the full report here.
