Bishan Singh Bonal, the newly appointed Member Secretary of India's National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), wrote an open letter to the over one million students under Sanctuary Asia' s Kids For Tigers (KFT) program. In his warm letter to these young conservationists, Bonal thanked them for their unstinting support to tiger conservation and promised to work towards saving their tigers to his last breath.
Bonal has a total of 27 years of experience in wildlife management and has worked extensively in the World Heritage Sites of Kaziranga and Manas National Park. He has also served as the Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Assam and has, in the past, been the Director of the National Zoological Park and the head of the Assam State Zoo. In January 2015, Bonal replaced Rajesh Gopal as the Additional Director General of Project Tiger and the Member Secretary of the NTCA.
Aarti Verma, the National Coordinator for Kids For Tigers, said, “It is immensely encouraging for our enthusiastic kids to hear from the man who is in charge of tiger conservation in the country. By reaching out to the younger generation and requesting their support, Bonal has displayed great foresight and has fortified the strongest support base that India's wildlife has."
