'Hyderabad Metro Rail Designed To Grab Land'

In an appeal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and environment minister Jairam Ramesh, the activists, under the umbrella organisation of National Alliance for People's Movements, demanded that the project be reviewed `as its main objective is to grab prime land.'
The activists, in a two-page appeal, said that it was important to study if metro rail would indeed be the best alternative to improve public transportation in the city.
They said that it was the most controversial mega project in public private partnership mode "being pushed'' by both the Union and the state governments. The project, they said, had even lost the support of its prime consultant, E Sreedharan, managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Read the full report here.
