India Lost A Lot, Gained Little At Cancun Climate Summit

The 'brief analysis' conducted after the Cancun conference by government experts lays bare India's losses at several fronts in the conference while conceding limited gains.
The future of Kyoto Protocol that ensures hard targets to cut emissions for developed countries was weakened, the document states. "...the impact of these decisions (taken at Cancun) on implementation of Kyoto Protocol obligations of developed countries may not be as salutary" in official politeness. But the import of what the report admits isn't lost.
Without a Kyoto Protocol in place, countries like India and China would end up having similar commitments as the US and Europe. While India has no obligation under the UN Climate Convention, the rich countries are mandated to adhere to stiff targets. Read the full report here.
