India, U.S. To Set Up Working Group On Climate Change

The group will be formed to “intensify efforts to find ways that we can bilaterally address the urgency of climate change," said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at a briefing in New Delhi. Kerry and India's external affairs minister Salman Khurshid will coordinate the proposed group. He added that the two countries were collaborating on development issues and believes more can be done to tackle climate change.

The report also stated that the external affairs ministry's involvement in climate change discussions with a key player in international negotiations could be indicative of the Indian government's efforts to integrate its position on climate change with its foreign policy goals. Previously, only the environment ministry has taken the initiative on climate change policy.
