"Appellant be released on probation of good conduct on furnishing a personal bond in the sum of Rs 10,000 with one surety of same amount," Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain said while releasing him on probation for a year. Warning Rehman against dealing in banned wildlife products in future, the court directed him to pay the compensation to the Central Zoo Authority, which was asked to use the money for welfare and protection of elephants. The court directed zoo authorities to use the money suitably within six months of its receipt and apprise the court of the mode and manner of its utilisation. The court showed leniency to the convict, considering he had been facing the trial for over 17 years and even the probation officer had recommended his release on probation of good conduct as he had stopped dealing in banned items. The court let off Rehman on his appeal challenging the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's order convicting and sentencing him to two years in jail on March 15, 2011. Read the full report here.
