Jairam Intervenes, Water Plants Back In Action

Operations at the Capital's two water treatment plants (WTPs) — Chandrawal and Wazirabad — which were partially shut on Tuesday after an increase in ammonia level in the Yamuna, were restored early Wednesday morning following an intervention by the Minister of Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh a day earlier. The level of ammonia in the Yamuna waters had gone up to 1 part per million (ppm) against the permissible limit of 0.6 ppm on Tuesday, leading to a water scarcity scare.
Delhi Jal Board Member (Water Supply) R K Garg said full production was restored at the two plants after the pollution levels started receding late on Tuesday night. “The matter is now being taken up by the Environment Ministry," he said. Read the full report here.
