Jairam Ministry Seeks Action Against Lavasa

The Jairam Ramesh-headed ministry wrote to the Maharashtra government asking it “to initiate necessary action under the Environment (Protection) Act" against the 5,000-hectare project, an hour's drive from Pune.
“The action taken may please be informed (intimated to the ministry) at the earliest," says the letter sent by the ministry which had sent the project a showcause last November over alleged violation of green norms. The company challenged the move in Bombay High Court.
The directive for action came as the expert committee's recommendation favouring a conditional clearance for the first phase of the project spread over 2,000 hectares was uploaded on the ministry's website. Read the full report here.
