At a function to release the CRZ 2011 notifications, which make special provisions for the island city of Mumbai, Ramesh said, “All violations that were detected will continue to be prosecuted under the CRZ 1991 notifications. CRZ 2011 does not regularise or condone Adarsh-type violations."
He said the MoEF would be issuing a directive to all state governments under section (5) of the Environment Protection Act to identify all violations under CRZ 1991 within four months and initiate action. “Only Goa has conducted satellite image-based assessment of violations so far. It has detected 5,000 to 6,000 instances. I appeal to the IT-savvy CM to take cognisance of CRZ 1991 violations in Mumbai and initiate action against them.
