One of the most prominent changes in the second reshuffle of UPA-II, Ramesh's new role quickly became what the business world calls a win-win story. Ramesh took over charge right after the swearing-in, basking in the elevation from minister of state rank to a full Cabinet member.
Speaking after the swearing-in, PM Manmohan Singh reflected the confidence the party and government has on Ramesh. Singh said that Ramesh had been given more expansive responsibility where "his talent will be better utilized".
The Congress would be able to put his ever-active mind to more productive use at the critical development ministry. However, those in the upper echelons of government would have a hassle to deal with. Now, they will have to contend with a man who has abundant energy, has access to the founts of power, is unafraid to speak his mind, and now has overcome the one handicap that he may have had: a permanent seat in the Cabinet.
