Making these claims at New Delhi after meeting the Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh, state forest minister Vijayshanker said the Ramesh was all praises for the state regarding measures taken to protect tigers in its forests.
"Ramesh told me that wildlife protection measures, especially intended at protecting endangered species like tigers, are worth emulating by other states," Vijayshanker said, adding that he had urged the Centre to ban eucalyptus and acacia plantations all over the country as they are detrimental to the environment and forest conservation activities.
Vijayshanker said he submitted four letters to the environment minister which included a request to ban cultivation eucalyptus and acacia trees, measures to be taken while expanding roads to protect roadside trees, and halt projects harming the state's forests and ease pressure on natural forests by people.
