Mr Ramesh's resignation offer, made in a letter to the primeminister on Monday evening, came in the midst of a full-blown controversy over his comments against the Indian home ministry from Beijing.
Though the prime minister reprimanded the minister on Monday morning asking him not to exceed his turf and comment on issues concerning other ministries, Mr Singh spoke to Mr Ramesh that evening after he offered to quit and conveyed that he should carry on with his work, top government sources said.
The prime minister's continuing faith in the minister, after having administered a strong rap on the knuckles, is an indication that the matter has been closed for now by the Congress leadership. It also means that Mr Ramesh, whose Rajya Sabha nomination comes up for renewal next month, can rest easy as far as finding a place in the Upper House of Parliament goes.Â
