Jairam Ramesh Visits Tal Chappar Sanctuary

Forest department sources said after inspecting the sanctuary, Ramesh felt the sanctuary's size could be increased. This has been a long- pending demand of local citizens.

Currently the sanctuary is on 719 hectares but Ramesh is understood to have agreed to increase it to 1,000 hectares. He also agreed to link the sanctuary with a nearby forest through a corridor.

The Tal Chhapar sanctuary is in Churu district on the fringe of the great Indian desert. Tal Chhapar contains the most elegant antelope in India, the black buck. The sanctuary, with almost flat tract and interspersed with shallow low-lying areas, has open grassland. Read the full report here.
