2. Environment clearance was given to the Mahan coal-block on December 23^rd, 2008.

3. The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) has considered this proposal four times - on July 23^rd, 2008, October 10^th, 2008, July 20^th, 2009 and December 11^th, 2009. It was unable to arrive at a final decision given the complexity of the issues involved. Thereafter, In January/February 2010, the Mahan coal-block was identified as being in the "no-go" zone based on the joint exercise carried out by the MoE&F and CMPDIL (Central Mine Planning and Development Institute Limited) of the Ministry of Coal.
