Jairam Rules Out No-Go Area Review For Coal Mining

"The Go/No-go issue will be decided on a case-by-case basis,'' steel minister Beni Prasad Verma said after the ministerial panel's second meeting. He was referring to the seven captive coal mines attached to steel projects that have been stalled due to the classification.
But coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, who had taken the matter to the Cabinet for a resolution, and Ramesh both said discussions were still on. This clearly indicated that Verma's suggestion has yet to get a stamp of approval from the ministerial panel.
One indication, however, was that the environment ministry would look at giving Stage-II clearance to projects that had been granted Stage-I project before 2009. Read the full report here.
