Pune is one of these cities and a key criteria to get further funds for the city will depend on the steps being taken to increase its green cover, said Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh.
Ramesh was in the city on Saturday to chair the public consultation of the draft mission document of the Green India Mission (GIM) which is one of the eight National Missions announced by the Prime Minister under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). Pune was the second city where the consultation was held after Guwahati, out of the seven to be held in the country. “The Green India Mission will not be business as usual. There will be complete transparency in the work right from the funds used to meeting targets," said Ramesh at the vibrant consultation that saw NGOs and environmental activists from all around the state. While stressing upon the need of the GIM, he said, “No country in the world will see the effect of climate change in the way India will. There needs to be a balance of development and environment and need to think of strategies to maintain this balance." Read the original report here.
