Anybody living in Kerala owning 15 sq. m. of sunny rooftop area can register for this programme, which hopes to reach over 50,000 households in its second phase.
The ambitious scheme, launched by Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on February 11, 2013, as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), will require an expenditure of over Rs. 175 crores, with budgetary support of over Rs. 80 crores from the MNRE. Similar projects have been sanctioned by the JNNSM in other states, aiming to generate 200 MW of power from solar installations by March 2013.
