Kite-like wind turbines?

Based on 28 years of data, scientists from the National Center for Environmental Prediction and the Department of Energy, the Carnegie Institution's Department of Global Ecology and California State University, compiled data that showed that jet streams, which are meandering belts of wind at altitudes of 20 and 50,000 feet, have median values of 10 kilowatts per square metre as opposed to the one kilowatt per square metre value of near-grounds winds. Using current technology these winds can generate up to 40 megawatts of electricity at a time. New York has been identified as a viable location for such a venture along with Tokyo and Seoul. However, researchers have said that allowances must be made for fluctuations in wind strength.
