The zoology department of the college started the programe a week before Global Tiger Day. They created special tiger bookmarks and wristbands that were distributed to students, faculty and the principal to increase awareness about the cause.
On July 29, Mr. Arumugam from the Annamalai Forest Reserve gave a talk to the students on poaching of wild animals and how a census is conducted. The film The Truth About Tigers by Shekar Dattatri was also screened, which was followed by an interactive session with the students to discuss the Leave Me Alone rationale and the link between tigers, water, forests, climate change and humans.
The students also held a poster painting competition with the theme of ‘Saving Tigers' and ‘Western Ghats and Tigers'. The students were at their creative best and some beautiful paintings of tigers came out of the competition. The entire event was covered by a Tamil news channel and a few newspapers.
