Leopard Cub Dies In Melghat, Mother Waits Near Body For Three Hours

The cub had been crossing the highway with its mother to reach the Sipana river which runs parallel to the Paratwada-Dharni-Khandawa state highway, forcing animals to make the treacherous and often fatal journey across the road. Members of the Nature Conservation Society Amravati (NCSA) said that the mother actually dragged the body of her cub back to the side of the highway where she waited with it for three hours.

The NCSA is currently calling for a ban on night traffic on roads passing through the reserve and a complete ban on all vehicular movement between January and June on five routes viz. a viz. Dharni-Paratwada, Khatkali-Harisal, Khongda-Dhakna, Zari-Dhulghat and Gullarghat.
