Major Link In Pangolin Trade Arrested

On July 15, the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department arrested one person who is said to be a crucial link in the Indo-Chinese pangolin smuggling racket. The accused, who is from Odisha, was arrested, and forest officers seized an approximate two kilograms of scales from him.

The person arrested in the raid has reportedly confessed to trafficking an approximate 100 pangolins from India to China within the last year. There seems to be an insatiable demand for pangolin scales and meat, as the body parts are used in traditional Chinese medicine and delicacies respectively, and the poached animals are smuggled out from India through north Bengal, Manipur and Myanmar.
