Aday after the union ministry of environment and forests , led by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, served a notice on the multi-crore Lavasa project for alleged violation of environmental laws, NCP founder president and Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar stated that no action should be taken against the project in haste. In a recent interview on the eve of his 70th birthday, Pawar admitted that the Lavasa lake-city project was his concept and, before taking any action against the controversial project, its management should be heard.
Following a complaint lodged by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and social worker Medha Patkar, Ramesh had initiated a probe against the project, particularly with regard to the implementation of the Environment Protection Act and Coastal Regulation Zone rules.
