While one of the expert members of the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), BD Tripathi, raised the issue of suitable mechanism based on regenerating ability for the cleaning of the Ganga, another member Rajendra Singh advocated government support to people working for the cause of the National River. Another member Veer Bhadra Mishra was also not satisfied with the progress of the mission.
"I drew the attention of environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh to the in-situ bio-remediation technology developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for the treatment of wastewater," Tripathi told TOI on Wednesday after returning from the meeting.
Tripathi, who is a BHU professor and co-ordinator of the Centre for Environmental Science and Technology (CEST), said he told the minister that in-situ bio-remediation technology was not only cost-effective but also eco-friendly in preventing the pollutants from going into the river.
