He was speaking at the two-day 'eastern zone conference-2011' organized by the Indian Institute of Architects, Bihar and Jharkhand, on the theme 'Green architecture'.
The deputy CM said, "In the last few years, Bihar has undergone huge climatic change. The whole climate cycle of the state has been affected — we are facing both drought and flood in the state and duration of summer and winter has changed. The condition here is too severe now."
Talking about the present 7% forest cover in the state, Modi said, "After bifurcation of the state in the year 2000, the forest cover in Bihar has come down sharply." He then added that to promote afforestation and create awareness, the government would distribute as many as 10 lakh saplings free of cost from September 1. Read the full report here.
