Former Union Minister and local MP Vilas Muttemwar, who is spearheading the campaign for declaring Vidarbha as the Tiger capital told PTI that as per the Tiger Census report released by Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh, there are about 60-70 full grown tigers in Tadoba alone and about 196 in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
The Tiger Census has not included cubs or otherwise the figures would have been even more encouraging, Muttemwar said adding that he hopes now Vidarbha will soon become the tiger capital. Muttemwar, who participated in the two-day Global Tiger Recovery programme held in New Delhi on March 28-29, said that Ramesh also mentioned at the event of including Bor, Nagzira and Navegaon in the tiger projects besides opening a regional office of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in Nagpur to cover adjoining Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh also.
